Puzzle logic in broken

Hi!
I've tried to solve the puzzle #22222968 and came across such issues:

1. Clue says, that the item is behind another item. But look on the hint! It's completely sure, that the item is greater http://prntscr.com/an59uo How's this possible?

2. The item is 2 squares ahead another item. This obviously means, that it can't be equal to the 2 smallest values. But the program marks this incorrect http://prntscr.com/an5a96 !

How can I possibly solve this?!!!

Looks like the hint logic may be incorrect there, but here's the solution. There is enough information in the clues to get there.

cal enc isp old van eth ire jea kri peg ath gar lee pla yor
1 o x x x x x o x x x x o x x x
2 x x x x o x x x o x x x x x o
3 x o x x x o x x x x x x o x x
4 x x o x x x x x x o o x x x x
5 x x x o x x x o x x x x x o x

Solving path (the number indicates the clue(s) used to get the logic):

1. 5th place doesn't equal Irene
2. 1st place doesn't equal Yorba Linda
2. 5th place doesn't equal Gardena
3. 3rd place doesn't equal Plainfield
6. 5th place equals Old Blush (and mark all the rest of the options in that row/column false)
7. 4th place doesn't equal vanity
7. 1st place doesn't equal enchantress
8. 3rd place doesn't equal vanity
8. 1st place doesn't equal Athens
8. 2nd place doesn't equal Athens
8. 5th place doesn't equal Athens
7. 4th place doesn't equal enchantress
7. 2nd place doesn't equal calocarpa (because if 1 is vanity then 2 is enchantress, and if 1 is NOT vanity then 2 must be vanity, so 2 must be either vanity or enchantress)
7. 2nd place doesn't equal ispahan (same logic as above)
9. 1st place is not ispahan
9. 5th place is not Yorba Linda
9. 4th place is not Yorba Linda
10. 1st place is not Kristen
10. 4th place is not Kristen
10. 5th place is not Kristen
1. 4th place is not Gardena (because if 1 is Gardena then 2 is Yorba Linda, and if 1 is NOT Gardena then 2 is Gardena, so 2 must be either Gardena or Yorba Linda)
1. 3rd place is not Gardena
1. 2nd place is not Lee Vining
1. 2nd place is not Plainfield
4. 3rd place is Ethel (and mark all other options in that row/column false)
5. 3rd place is not Athens
5. 4th place is Athens (because there's nothing else Athens could be, mark all others in the row/column false)
5. 4th place is not Irene
5. 4th place is not Jean
5. 5th place is not Kristin
5. 5th place is not Peggy
5. 5th place is Jean (because there's nothing else it could be, mark all others in the row/column false)
8. 2nd place is vanity (and mark all others in the row/column false)
8. 3rd place is enchantress (because there's nothing else it could be, mark all others in the row/column false)
8. 1st place is calocarpa (because there's nothing else it could be, mark all others in the row/column false)
8. 4th place is ispahan (because there's nothing else it could be, mark all others in the row/column false)
5. 2nd place is not Irene
5. 1st place is Irene (because there's nothing else it could be, mark all others in the row/column false)
10. 2nd place is Kristen and Yorba Linda (because there's no other places that can have both Kristen and Yorba Linda. Mark all others in row column false)
10. 1st is Gardena
10. 3rd is Lee Vining
10. 5th is Plainfield

Edit: Sorry the headers don't line up, but it's the same order as the screenshot. Also, sorry for the wall of text. I don't use the bottom boxes, and I tried to break down each step into its component logic. Let me know if you have any questions.

Damatref, I think you might have misread the clue.

The numbers (1st, 2nd etc) are ordinal, and not absolute values. So if 'vanity' finished 2 places ahead of [something], then it could NOT have come 5th (last) or 4th (next last).

I hope this makes sense, maybe someone else can explain better?

Terri is correct - when you finish "behind" someone in a contest, you finish in a higher-numbered (i.e. worse) place than them. 3rd place is behind 2nd place, for example.

The hints function doesn't take into account the grammatical context of each puzzle, they just give you raw data on whether something is greater or lesser numerically. This may be something we can improve in the future.

Sorry for any confusion!

Probably you are right, i just have to turn the clues upside-down to solve.
Thanks again, I'll try to do this
