Wink Real Test Of Genius

"The scholarship will be awarded," said the head to three candidates - Chuckles, Wombat & Breeze - "to the winner in this little competition. I am going to chalk a cross, which will be either a green or a red cross. I shall then ask each one who can see a green cross to hold his hand up; and take his hand down as soon as he can tell me what his own cross is. He must, of course, be able to explain how his answer is arrived at. Kindly close your eyes for 10 seconds."

He chalked a green cross on all three foreheads. "Go!"

All three hands shot up in air ; that of Chuckles was almost immediately lowered. "My cross is green , Sir"

How did Chuckles know?

Given:
1. There are 3 people.
2. They would have a green/red cross on their forehead.
3. They can only see the other peoples' foreheads.

Based on the given, the only possible scenarios where all three people would raise their hands are when 2 or 3 people have green crosses on their forehead.

Now, if it was 2 people who had green crosses on their forehead, the two people who had green crosses would immediately know what color the cross on their own forehead is, based on the fact that all three people raised their hands.

Chuckles, upon seeing that the other 2 didn't immediately answer, was therefore confident that the cross on his own forehead must also be green.
