Default How many puzzles are there?

Does anyone know how many logic puzzles are available? I seem to be doing the same half a dozen over and over again.

You can test that by placing comments on a number of puzzles, and then waiting to see how often you see your own comments.

I left a whole lot of comments on the 4x4 puzzles. I only tagged about one out of every 10, but I frequently left 3 or more comments on a single puzzle.

Seeing a particular puzzle again usually took about 3-4 days. I was doing about 20,000 points of 4x4 puzzles each day at about 250 points per puzzle, so from that rate, I would assume that there are about 280 different 4x4 puzzles.

By the way, if you look at the "Recent Games" tab, you'll see that each puzzle you have done has a number. Even when you see the exact same puzzle again, it will have a new number. For example, puzzles #4816394, #4967474, #5048352, #4836659, and #4991989 were all the same puzzle for me.

The home page says there are 25,000+ puzzles.

"We've got more than 25,000 unique puzzles available for play,"

That's the first clue.

Another clue for this particular logic puzzle (how many puzzles are there..) is the following.

In the box that shows the recent records, there is a puzzle ID. Soon after the new puzzle library was installed with Version 2.0 last December, everyone was setting a record. After watching those records for a while, I guessed that each puzzle size (3x4, 3x5, etc.) had approximately 3,000 unique puzzles distributed across the three difficulty levels for that size. I made the assumption that the puzzles were numbered sequentially starting at 1 for 3x4 Easy and ascending through 4x7 Challenging. If I remember right, if I set a record for one of the 4x7 Challenging puzzles, the ID was above 17,000 but less than 19,000.

So that would imply maybe 18,000-19,000 puzzles in the online part of the library.

I think the server is trying to give you a random puzzle with the size and difficulty you have selected. If you're seeing the same 6 puzzles over and over again within a short time period, I'm pretty sure the server is straying from its intended behavior.

Some of the comments are very entertaining. The ones that show up for the ice cream backstory are my favorites.

I have noticed the same categories turning up, but I thought that individual items within categories were changed, or the clues were different. Does anyone know if this is might happen?

When you get the same puzzle again, everything is the same. The clues are the same, the clues are in the same order. The answer is the same, and the choices are ordered the same way in the grid.

Here's a memorable one that I've seen several times:

I've done all the 4x4 easy puzzles a number of times (I got into the top six scorers of the month by doing this). This is the only 4x4 easy puzzle that ends with that pattern, and every time you get it, the pattern is always the same.

But can we be sure that the same rules apply in the 5x5 puzzles?
(Yes, it is a nice pattern, like a hat having fun!)
