Default New Record

This Puzzle's Statistics
Success Rate: 23.8%
Average Time: 2644 seconds
Record Time: 2395 seconds (usagi32211)
Your Time: 421 seconds New record!

... it wasn't THAT hard!

But seriously, does anyone want to do the math on this? What is the minimum number of people to have attempted it if the success rate is 23.8%, and how long did the other person(s) take to make the average solve time so high?

This Puzzle's Statistics
Success Rate: 31.3%
Average Time: 3817 seconds
Record Time: 3568 seconds (crazymathgirl)
Your Time: 402 seconds New record!

Another one with even more extreme values.

I can understand if only one person did the puzzle before me and they happened to get caught up in something that caused them to walk away and therefore take almost an hour (3600 seconds) to solve, but for the average to be even higher than that?

What is happening here?

The stats might be occasionally "wacky" for a while. This is because about 40% of our puzzle library is brand new as of December 2012. These puzzles have not been played often enough for statistical bell curves to form properly. Outliers in the data can occasionally cause strange troughs and spikes. This will normalize over the next few months as more solving data accrues.
