Default is there a mode besides competitive

You can log off and play as a guest and your scores won't show. When you.want to be in competitive mode, you.can log back on as a registered member.

Playing as a guest won't appease what appears to be the major issue, that is showing the time you spent on the puzzle against the bell curve of previous solves. That still occurs. You just won't accumulate points for the game, which it also reminds you every puzzle you solve.

People who truly don't care about how long it takes to do the puzzle, they only play for the fun, would not care about the bell curve statistical graph. If you didn't care, you wouldn't even look at it, but just click a button to move on to the next game or exit.
Only a person who cares would be upset by the graph.

I was wondering this for a while too. competitive mode implies another ode, and it would certainly make sense to have a relaxed mode, just so that people who multitask don't skew the average times.

or have the game auto pause if you click out of the window (grid and clues being blacked out so there's no cheating like that.. though if someone wanted to cheat the could just take a screen shot and save the game, and then pull up the screenie and figure it out and then go back to the game and get it super fast.... cheaters always find a way, really.)

Default A longtime casual solver's POV

Forgive me, please, if I commit any newbie faux pas, because I am new to the site and to the online logic puzzle solving process. I've been doing paper logic puzzles off and on for years. I'm not competitive about it, I prefer something that's just challenging enough to not be boring, and not so terribly difficult that it's frustrating. It takes me a long time to think through the clues so being timed and doing them in a really short time is foreign to me. Mainly I'm doing them for enjoyment and to keep my brain cells exercised! So I probably should just not log in, as folks have suggested. However, I bet there are other people who would enjoy a "casual mode" as so many other games have these days. I'd like to see the combination of a grid and a chart like I've been accustomed to in paper logic puzzles - something to fill in as I go, not just when I'm getting close to the end of the puzzle. I'm going to suggest that as a feature.

Post Suggestion

You can ignore the competitive part, and instead just play the game. That's what I do when I don't want to compete (but that is rare, VERY rare).

Default Its called competitive because you get points

Anything that happens when you are logged in gets recorded. If it gets recorded, then points are assigned. Points are used automatically for high score lists. High score lists are competitive. Therefore anything logged in is competitive. If you want a record of your times and points averages uncompetitively, then you need to be logged out and keep your own spreadsheet of results.
