Smile Points?

What's the point of earning points for solving the logic puzzles? Is there something you can earn your points for or is its simply a "score" for that particular puzzle? Thanks!

Points are for monthly contests. They are also used for determining the hall of fame rankings. There are also monthly contests for lowest average times and for success rates. The points are also used for record times for a particular puzzle. However, the records software hasn't been working for as long as I've been solving. The points are also a good benchmark for determining your progress as you learn to solve puzzles.
